Global search for players designed to lift Cook Islands out of the soccer basement in Oceania

The men's soccer team from Cook Islands didn't turn too many heads at the recent Pacific Games.

They scraped a narrow win over arch rivals Tonga, before being swept aside by the eventual gold medallists New Caledonia.

But now the team has a new coach at the helm in the form of the much-travelled Jess Ibrom.

Until recently he was National Technical Director for the Samoa Football Association, but his resume goes way beyond that, and not only in Oceania, but also in Europe and the United States.

So what has persuaded him to take on the role of head coach in the Cooks, and what does he believe he can achieve with one of the absolute minnows in world football?
