Jess Ibrom on Coaching from the Perspective of a Technical Director

Have you ever wondered what a Technical Director does? After hearing multiple stories from different clubs and organizations, I for one could not answer that question. That might be the same for you which is why I wanted sit down with someone who had held that position to get it all explained to me.

Jess Ibrom has a UEFA A & USSF A license and has coached in many countries including stints at Houston Dynamo, Wellington Phoenix and recently Tasman United FC in New Zealand. However, the focus on our discussion revolves around his years as the Technical Director of Cook Islands and his extensive work within coach education.

We talk about what a Technical Director does, what the difference is from a Sporting Director, and how a young coach arriving at an Academy should think in order to have a greater chance of success. You will also learn a lot about the Cook Islands, how small countries think when preparing for championships and more.
